Many thanks to Jake Bodhi for the timely reminder: it’s the second Saturday in May, which means today is the National Assn. of Letter Carriers FOOD DRIVE, when you’re friendly postal pals make it easy for you to help feed the hungry in your area.
Did I say easy? You don’t know easy! All you have to do is fill a bag or box with non-perishable foods and leave it by your mailbox with a sign indicating its for the NALC Food Drive and they do the rest—schlepp it to the truck, then to the post office and finally, off to your local food bank or feeding center. Yeah, I said easy.
And, before you scoff, “How much does this really help?” I’ll tell you: Last year, your hard-working letter carriers delivered over 71 million pounds of food to local food banks, not only feeding millions of Americans but saving you gas, shoe leather and precious time.
So hit the cupboard and pull out some cans, jars, boxes and tins, bag ‘em up and get ‘em out to the box. I guarantee you’ll feel better about your day.

Give a little food through the NALC or donate directly, and lay that monster down!
